Falcons off to strong start
Team currently undefeated
WILLIAMS - The Williams Middle School Falcon's basketball A team started off their season Jan. 9 on a high note with two wins.
In the first game, the Falcs took on Grand Canyon coming away with a comfortable win with a final score of 35-15. Kohl Nixon led the Falcs with 11 points. Colton Grantham, Coty Baxter, Jorge Davalos and Gabriel Chavez all scored four points each for Williams.
Next, the Falcons took on Flagstaff's St. Francis with a final score of Williams 48 - St. Francis 30. Davalos scored a game high 16 points followed by Nixon who scored 12 points. Baxter also scored nine points with Sean Ponce posting eight points.
Coach Herman Nixon said that although the A team had an excellent start to the season, the B team had a disappointing Saturday.
"Both Grand Canyon and St. Francis were unable to field a B team for the first game for the season so unfortunately our B team could only scrimmage against each other," Nixon said.
The Falcons continued their winning streak when they faced off against Seligman and St. Francis Jan. 16. The A team defeated St. Francis 38-22 with Davalos contributing 14 points followed by Ponce with 9 points.
Later in the day, the A team defeated Seligman 39-24. Davalos again led the Falcons with a 14-point game.
The Falcon B team also had a successful day defeating Seligman 20-12. Austin Kennelly led the team with a 10-point game.
The currently undefeated Falcons take on Ash Fork and Grand Canyon in away games this weekend.
