Clara's Dog Walking Services

WILLIAMS - People lead increasingly busy lives, often working more than one job and balancing difficult schedules. As a result, sometimes pets lose out in the equation and don't get enough exercise.

Clara Beard of Clara's Dog Walking Services said without proper exercise and companionship, dogs start to feel lonely.

"Many dog behavioral problems are the result of isolation or insufficient exercise," she said.

Beard has plenty of experience with animals. She interned at the London Zoo, has been a veterinarian technician and interned at the Wolf Sanctuary and Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic in North Carolina.

"At the London Zoo, I fed and took care of wild animals," Beard said. "I interned at the bio-diversity exhibit, which meant I took care of all sorts of animals like Ant Eaters and reptiles. More recently I was a vet tech, so I have a lot of experience with animals."

Clara's Dog Walking Service offers 30, 45 and 60 minute walking sessions. Discounts are offered for scheduling sessions on consecutive days. If referred to another client by a current client, Beard offers two free walking sessions.

Along with dog walking, Beard also offers medication and feeding services as well as animal checks.

Beard said sometimes people need help with dog walking for only a limited amount of time if circumstances arise that make it difficult for them to get outside.

"The dog walking service is great for people who work long hours, are unable to get out in the snow or are recovering from illness," Beard said.

Beard is currently accepting new clients. To schedule an appointment for dog walking services call (928) 380-4950.

JD's Espresso: Supporting our troops one bag of donuts at a time

WILLIAMS - The folks at JD's Espresso wear red shirts every Friday. Why? To show support for the men and women bravely serving the United States in the military at home and abroad.

Doing a quick Internet search for "Red Shirt Friday" yields pages of sites dedicated to the Red Shirt Friday campaign. Although hard to pinpoint exactly how the red shirt idea began, the concept has spread rapidly, largely through emails requesting that individuals wear a read shirt every Friday until all American troops come home.

Cindy Aguilar, a barista at JD's Espresso, said the idea is starting to catch on at the coffee shop, especially after her customers read a flyer on the tables explaining the concept.

"They like the fact that people and businesses in Williams are supporting the troops," she said. "It's important because by wearing a red shirt you're supporting the troops and it shows you're behind them, especially if you have friends and family in the military like I do."

As an extra incentive to encourage their customers to participate in the campaign, JD's Espresso is offering a free seven pack of Orbits donuts to customers who don a red shirt on Fridays.
