WILLIAMS - The Lady Vikings continued to run out of steam last week, ending the regular season with losses to Camp Verde and St. Johns.

Head Coach Philip Echeverria said although the girls lost to Camp Verde 49-50 Feb. 9, they played solid basketball for the majority of the game.

"We played a pretty decent ball game," he said. "We still missed a lot of shots that I thought we should have made."

The Lady Vikes shot well from the outside, hitting seven three-pointers over the course of the game. At the end of the half, the girls were up 32-24.

Camp Verde was able to regroup at half time and, combined with a slow Viking third quarter, inched back to within two points by the end of the quarter.

"We had one of our bad quarters in the third quarter, only scoring six points, and let them back into the game," Echeverria said. "We had a chance to win it. We were down one with five seconds. We drew up a play and got a good shot and we just happened to miss the shot."

For their final game of the regular season the girls took on St. Johns in an away game Feb. 11.

St. Johns dominated the game from the start. The Lady Vikes fell behind by six points early on, ending the first quarter down 7-13. By the end of the half, St. Johns extended their lead to 11 points.

Echeverria said the Lady Vikes were never really in the game.

"It's one of those things where I said we saved our worst for last instead of our best for last," he said. "We really came out and played with no emotion. We really struggled throughout the game."

The Lady Vikings eventually fell to St. Johns 43-58. The girls ended the season 9-8 in power point games and 13-12 overall. They are ranked 17th in the power ratings heading into the state playoffs.

The girls take on Hayden in round one of the state playoffs tonight at Scottsdale Christian High School at 7 p.m.

Echeverria said the Lady Vikings have yet to play a full game all season.

"I told the girls, that season is over," Echeverria said. "We start a new season. If we want to play more, we're going to have to come out and win every game that we play from now on. One of the tough parts of drawing the 17th seed is if we happen to beat Hayden then we're going to play the No. 1 team in the state. That's Valley Christian. We've got our work cut out for us but you've got to play everybody at some point. We'll see how it goes. I'm hoping we come out with some emotion and play with a little bit of fire in our bellies."
