Falcs dominate competition
Record now stands at 6-0
WILLIAMS - The Williams Elementary-Middle School Falcons continued their winning streak last weekend, defeating both Ash Fork and San Francisco de Asis.
The Falcons A team improved their record to 6-0 after defeating Ash Fork 52-21 and San Francisco de Asis 54-28 Saturday at home.
Kohl Nixon led the Falcons against Ash Fork with 12 points followed by Damon Alvarado and Jorge Davalos with 8 points each. Rafael Duran with 7 points.
In the second game of the day, the Falcons A team faced off against San Francisco de Asis out of Flagstaff. Nixon and Davalos each scored 13 points to lead the Falcons, followed by Sean Ponce who contributed 10 points and Coty Baxter with 7 points.
The Williams B team took on Ash Fork's B team with a final score of 26-21. Leading scorers for Williams were Sam Mertz and Edgar Duran with 6 points and Chance Stewart, Austin Kennelly and Matthew Perkins with 4 points each.
The Falcons travel to Kayenta this weekend for the Junior High Tournament.
Coach Herman Nixon said the tournament provided the Falcs with their biggest challenges of the season.
"Our A team is very strong with some good athletes, but they will have to bring their A game to win in Kayenta," Nixon said. "Kayenta will be a very good test for our team since we will be facing some of the top Junior High teams in the state. We know our starters Kohl Nixon, Coty Baxter, Jorge Davalos, Colton Grantham and Sean Ponce are very strong, but we will need our reserves to pick it up when they go in to give the starters some rest. Damon Alvarado has really picked up his game and we need the rest of the reserves to follow his lead if we're going to win some games in Kayenta."
