WILLIAMS - On Monday afternoon, Dec. 13, the Bill Williams Mountain Men (BWMM) met with Governor Janice K. Brewer. The purpose of their visit was to receive Special Recognition of the Governor's Proclamation naming the organization once again Arizona Official Ambassadors.

The BWMM was started in 1953 by a group of businessmen from Williams and have received this distinction numerous times. Second generation BWMM Bob Dean commented about meeting Raul Castro, Bruce Babbitt, Evan Mecham, Fife Symington, and Rose Mofford at previous ceremonies. The mountain men were ushered into the conference room on the eighth floor of the executive offices at the Capitol by another Williams native, Todd Parenteau, who serves on the Governor's security force.

Bill Williams Mountain Men representing the organization were Bob Dean, Roxen Cureton, Ray Ricks, Charlie (Brown) Householder, Bill Bates, and Lee Andersen. Congressman John Shaddig, who helped put the meeting together, was also present. After the photo opportunities, the Governor and Congressman spent quite a few minutes visiting with the mountain men, hearing stories of past horseback rides from Williams to Phoenix, and the charitable work the BWMM are involved in.

On the men's faces you could see the respect and support they have for the governor and the time went by too fast, but she is busy running the business of the state and the meeting was ended when she stated that she must return to work. All smiles with pride, the mountain men made their way to the elevator and parking lot to return home after once again, proudly representing their hometown of Williams.
