Boy Scout summer camp a success
Scouts in attendance all advance to First Class rank
WILLIAMS - Boy Scouts with Williams Troop 138 recently attended summer camp where they worked on merit badges and wilderness survival skills.
Four scouts and three adult leaders attended Camp Raymond July 5-10. The camp is located 10 miles south of Parks at the northernmost tip of Sycamore Canyon.
Scout leader Howard Jackson said his scouts usually attend summer camp every year.
"It is a great opportunity to interact with other scout troops and earn merit badges and rank advancements," he said.
Braden Heap, Jeffrey Ellico, Tim Rautenberg and Kyle Watson all earned three to four merit badges ranging from wood carving to wilderness survival. All four advanced in rank to First Class scouts.
"We had one scout who arrived at camp not knowing how to swim," Jackson said. "By the time camp ended, he became a competent swimmer. Along the way the boys learned about self-reliance, service, and teamwork to accomplish goals and to have fun at the same time."
The adult leaders who attended camp were Howard Jackson, Bryan Watson and Craig Smith.
Boys between the ages of 12 to 18-years-old interested in joining the Boys Scouts can contact Howard Jackson at (928) 380-6766 or Tom Hooker at (928) 635-2223.
