WILLIAMS - On May 1 40-plus students from the Williams Elementary-Middle School (WEMS) changed the history of the school.

Earlier in the year, WEMS Student Council did a survey asking students what they wanted to change or improve about the school. The majority of the students wanted to improve the look of the gym. After that, Student Council got permission from the administration to give the gym a much needed make over.

Once they had the green light, Student Council got sponsors to help make it all happen. Sherwin Williams of Flagstaff donated 25 gallons of black paint. Kiwanis Club, and Rotary Club also generously donated to help provide supplies like rollers, tape and plastic.

Then came the actual painting. Student Council organized a lock-in for students to stay the night to help paint the gym and have a great time. Although it was a lot of work, the students had a blast. There was an exciting glowstick game when it got really dark and many other things for the students to do.

"My favorite part of the lock-in was when Mrs. Mitchell fell when we were playing Ghost in the Graveyard," said Bayleigh Preston.

There was a scavenger hunt throughout the school while waiting for the paint to dry. There were also rooms where there were different games for students to play. There were Wii sports, X-Box, Rock Band and movies playing in the auditorium. It was a really great experience for the students and it made them proud they were improving their school.

"It was fun because we got to paint and make our gym look better and have a fun time," said Christian Campos.

There was pizza donated from Pizza Factory and Pizza Hut for the hardworking students when they got hungry, along with plenty of other stuff to munch on throughout the night. The Rotter family donated a lot of other great food to eat, too.

"I had fun because we had a lot of good food," Adrian Solano said of all the munchies available.

The WEMS Student Council would like to thank all of the sponsors and chaperones that made the gym makeover possible. Sponsors include Sherwin Williams, Williams Rotary Club, Williams Kiwanis Club, Pizza Hut, Pizza Factory, the Rotter Family, Wal-Mart and Home Depot.
