Preschool screening April 24
The WEMS will be screening preschool children between the ages three to five on April 24. The screening will be held at the WEMS from 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m.
The purpose of the preschool screening is to identify children with special needs. Any preschooler who is having difficulty in the areas of vision, hearing, speech, language, coordination, movement, or learning are recommended for screening. Children showing significant problems in the above mentioned areas on the screening would then be recommended for further evaluation by the district's special education staff. Those children identified as having handicapping conditions would then be eligible to receive special education services/therapy, tuition-free, through the district developmental preschool program located at the WEMS.
The special needs qualification process begins with the Child Find screening and may be extended to include a developmental and psycho-educational evaluation. Enrollment as a special needs student cannot occur until all steps of the process have been concluded. Parents must bring a certified copy of the child's birth certificate and immunization records at the time of the scheduled appointment.
