Letter: Forest Service side of Cataract remains open
To the editor:
Due to the recent announcement by Coconino County that Cataract Lake County Campground is set to close, we have been receiving many worried phone calls asking about the status of the Forest Service Cataract Lake Campground. The Forest Service Cataract Lake Campground is open and will remain so. No changes are planned on the Forest Service side of the lake.
The Forest Service Cataract Lake Campground can be accessed from Williams by turning north onto Seventh Street, crossing the railroad tracks, turning west at the first road, and then traveling about a mile to the campground entrance on the right. Cataract Lake is a popular fishing location and is also a great spot for camping and picnicking.
The Forest Service Cataract Lake Campground offers 18 campsites, which have tables and fire rings. Each site is $14 per night for the first vehicle and an additional $7 per night for extra vehicles. Tents, trailers and small motor homes up to 22 feet can be accommodated.
Even though the Coconino County campground at Cataract Lake may be closing, we want people to know that they can still enjoy camping at the lake by visiting the Forest Service Cataract Lake Campground. For more information, please contact the Williams Ranger District at (928) 635-5600 or Southwest Recreation at (928) 699-1239.
