Juniors slam Page with shutout game play
Williams wins one, ties second game during doubleheader
The Williams Juniors executed a strong game June 6 when they faced a doubleheader against the Page Juniors. The team rallied to beat Page 13-0 in the first game, and tied with Page in a second game.
In the first game Williams pitcher Kohl Nixon pitched a one hit shutout resulting in Williams winning the game 13 to 0. Nixon improved his pitching record this season to 8 and 1 while also going 3 for 4 at the plate. Williams' player Coty Baxter was 4 for 4 at the plate while Ethan Berry was 3 for 4 and hit a three run home run in the first inning.
In the second game Williams played Page to a tie 10 all. Williams came to bat in the last inning down five runs and the first two batters grounded out. Nixon started the rally by hitting a double and scored when Jorge Davalos hit a shot over the fence for a home run. Williams put together several more hits, scoring three more runs to tie the game. The game was called due to the time limit, leaving the game as a tie.
" I was very proud of our young men who fought back in the second game to get our record for the season at 14-2-1. We struggled with pitching the second game and our players picked up our pitchers and made sure we didn't lose the game," said Coach Herman Nixon.
Williams has three games remaining for the season before traveling to Prescott for all-stars. The Juniors will play at 5 p.m. Friday at Flagstaff Junior high and on Saturday, will play another doubleheader at Continental Fields. Game times are 2:30 and 5 p.m.
