Business beat: Before heading outdoors, visit The Outdoor Store

A community store offering locals honest prices was a vision Sam and Kathy Fichera had for quite some time. The couple's dream was fulfilled when they recently opened The Outdoor Store, located at 106 S. Ninth St. in the Pine Mountain Plaza behind Family Dollar.

"We have always wanted to own such a business," Kathy said.

In addition to selling hunting and fishing licenses, the store offers supplies for camping, hunting and fishing in addition to various sports equipment, including horseshoes.

The most recent addition to the store's inventory is Red Wing Boots. While the Ficheras currently sell ammunition and archery supplies, Sam hopes to add guns to the inventory soon.

"As the business grows, I plan to sell guns, too," he said. "Our inventory will continue to expand."

The store currently offers muzzle loading and supplies, reloading supplies, knives, baseballs, basketballs, footballs and kites. Both artificial and live bait are available along with a full line of fishing supplies.
