2009 Property Olympics this Sunday

Xanterra organizers plan to hold their annual Property Olympics Sunday at the Grand Canyon Community Rec Center, as a way for employees to mingle and play with family and friends. The fun-filled event is scheduled to kick off at noon. Food, activities (such as the famous dolly drop), will be offered throughout the afternoon. A number of new events will also be on tap for the 2009 games. Awards will also be presented, such as for those with the best design on their shirts, the Turkey Award and more. According to organizers, photos of the event will be offered from July 15 through the end of the month. The Xanterra South Rim Graphic Design Coordinator will take the photos, organizers said.

Veterinarian visits Tuesday

Dr. Fred Bush with the Flagstaff Animal Hospital will be on hand Tuesday at the Grand Canyon Kennels. Providing veterinarian services to the Grand Canyon for over 25 years, Bush will be available on his Tuesday visit from 12:30-2 p.m. For more information or to make an appointment, call (928) 779-4565. Entertainment at Bright Angel

Offering a wide variety of musical entertainment, ranging from oldies to contemporary music with a fun western slant, the Bright Angel Lounge is quickly becoming known as a great place for 21 and over entertainment. Joyce Woodson is slated to perform July 10-11 at the lounge from 6-10 p.m. Jeff Moats will be featured July 29-Aug. 1 at the lounge, as well as Aug. 4-8, from 6-10 p.m.

Register for 9-1-1

The 9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatch Center urges residents in the Grand Canyon area to register their telephone numbers and addresses. Registered information is confidential and will only be used to pinpoint a 9-1-1 call in the event the caller is unable to speak. The 9-1-1 system currently leaves out crucial information for dispatchers in the event of an emergency, such as medical information and addresses. New residents, or those who are changing addresses, are encourage to call the

9-1-1 Public Safety Dispatch Center at (928) 638-7805.

Plans for GCHS

On Saturday, at 1 p.m., author Jean Luttrell presents "John Riffey: The Last Long-Time Ranger," at Northern Arizona University's Cline Library. Luttrell is author of a biography on the longtime Toroweap ranger. The Historical Society will lead a service project on July 18 and 19 to Pasture Wash where they will work with Grand Canyon Youth volunteers to restore the ranger station and barn. Get fit with dance class

A dancexercise class for adult non-dancers will be offered on Mondays at 6:15 p.m. and Tuesdays at 3:45 p.m. at the Rec Center. The program includes elements of jazz, Afro-Caribbean and hip hop dance plus some abdominal exercises and stretching. Cost is $10 per class. Contact Bonnie Berger at (928) 638-1103.

Hopi House dancers

Look for Native American Dancers at the rim, as they perform near the Hopi House. The dancers will be located on the platform outside of the Hopi House Gift Store and across from the El Tovar Hotel. They will perform today and tomorrow, July 13-16, July 20-23, July 27-30, Aug. 3-5, Aug. 10-15, Aug. 17-19 and Aug. 24-26. Dance times are 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Lion's Club rummage sale Saturday

Members of the Grand Canyon Lion's Club will host a rummage sale this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grand Canyon School's multi-purpose room. A number of items will be available during the popular local event, including clothing, furniture, sports equipment, cameras, binoculars, jewelry, books, electronics and more. Proceeds from the rummage sale go toward Grand Canyon High School scholarships and the many charitable projects of the Grand Canyon Lion's Club.

Tumble Tyme Camp at Rec Center

Instructors Jessica and Erron will offer a summer 'Tumble Tyme' camp at the rec center. Each camp will consist of four days of tumbling and instruction, fun, games and a healthy snack. Transportation assistance is available. A $10 registration fee is required for new students. There is no registration fee for returning students. A junior camp, for ages six and under, is planned for July 6-9, from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday, 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. A senior camp, for ages six and up, is planned July 6-9, from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kaibab Learning Center to offer summer enrichment programs

Children between the ages of five to 12-years-old are invited to attend the summer enrichment program offered through the Kaibab Learning Center (KLC). The summer program will offer a number of activities, including guest speakers, science and ecology, computer skills, creative art and themed educational explorations. Students already enrolled at the KLC will participate in these programs at no extra cost. Tuition for the enrichment program is $145 pre week. Parents will provide lunch and daily snacks. The summer enrichment program is offered through July from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact the learning center at (928) 638-6333
