Murder-suicide focus of investigation

Responding to a 911 call about 12:30 Thursday morning, Grand Canyon National Park rangers discovered two people deceased in a Pinion Park residence.

According to community members, they are identified as 82-year-old Laurent "Rim to Rim Maverick" Gaudreau and his wife, Shirley, 73.

Rangers secured the scene and are investigating with support from the FBI's evidence response team. They are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide. No third-party involvement is suspected.

Park Public Affairs Officer Maureen Oltrogge said that because of the ongoing investigation and pending notification of next-of-kin, no further details will be released.
