Movies at the Grand Canyon Rec Center

Free lemonade and popcorn are offered during the Grand Canyon Recreation Center's movie times. On Friday, the rec center will screen "Funny People" (R) beginning at 7 p.m. "Terminator Salvation" (PG-13) will screen Dec. 11 beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday Matinees will include "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian" this Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. "Shorts" will be screend Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.

Veterinarian visit to Canyon

Dr. Fred Bush, from the Flagstaff Animal Hospital, will visit the Grand Canyon Kennels Tuesday from 12:30-2 p.m. Call (928) 779-4565 for more information or to make an appointment for your pet during Bush's visit. Walk-ins at the kennel are also welcome.

Traditional Japanese Sword Class

Falling Leaf Dojo offers a traditional Japanese Sword class on Thursdays.

Classes meet from 7-8 p.m. at the Grand Canyon Rec Center for ages 16-years and older. Registration is $30 for the introductory class. Call Luis Garcia at (928) 606-6142 or e-mail him at for more information. Discount rates are offered for families.

Musical fun for the whole family

All children are musical. Music Together's classes are tons of fun and can help your child develop to his/her full musical potential. Children age birth through five and their parents/caregivers experience songs, instrument play, and movement activities in a relaxed, playful setting with no performance pressure. Participants also receive a songbook, parent guide booklet, semi-annual newsletter, and two professionally recorded CDs for more family fun at home.

Winter semester classes run for eight weeks, Jan. 14 through March 4. Each semester features a new collection of songs and activities. This winter we will boogie to the Drum Collection.

Registration for winter semester is now in progress. Save money and secure your family's spot in class by registering early. Scholarships are available for those who can't afford tuition. Pick up after your dog

Officials with Grand Canyon School wish to remind dog owners to pick up after their dogs when walking through school grounds. Dog droppings can present a serious health risk to children playing on school grounds.

Yoga classes and more at Grand Canyon Rec Center

The Grand Canyon Rec Center offers a number of great activities for residents of the Grand Canyon and Tusayan, including Yoga classes and more. Tuesday night flow classes are offered from 5:45-7 p.m. and cost anywhere from $10 for a drop in class to $50 for an eight class package. Beginning Yoga with Jennifer is offered Wednesdays from 5:45-7 p.m. A night class is offered for donations on Sundays beginning at 5 p.m. A kids' Yoga workshop is offered on select Fridays. Other rec center classes include free Falun Dance classes each Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m., Zumba from 6-7 p.m., line dancing beginning at 6 p.m. and tap dance and ballet. The rec center can be contacted at (928) 638-3389 for more information.

Open gym basketball

Open gym basketball is held each Sunday at the Grand Canyon School from 7-9 p.m. Individuals who wish to participate must be over 16-years-old and wear non-marking athletic shoes. For the program to continue, officials advise that all rules of the Grand Canyon Recreation Center and the Grand Canyon School be followed at all times.
