Habitat seeks golfers
Funds from tourney will build a home locally

WILLIAMS - For the sixth consecutive year, the Williams Habitat for Humanity will host a golf tournament Sept. 19. Proceeds from the tournament will be placed in a fund and used to build a home for a deserving area family in the near future.

The Williams Habitat group purchased a vacant lot for the future home at the end of July. The lot is located at 407 Wells Fargo Rd. Organizers hope to break ground in the spring. This will be the second home the group has constructed in Williams.

"We would like to thank the community for the unbelievable support to be able to purchase that land," said Brenda Gebler, golf tournament recorder. "We appreciate the volunteers that work the fundraisers and the community support of the tournament and other projects."

Last year's golf tournament raised approximately $4,000. Organizers hope to raise more money this year.

Organizers are seeking hole sponsorships for the Sept. 19 tournament. Sponsorships are $200 each. It's not too late to sign up to participate in the tournament. The cost to enter is $100 per player.

"We invite people to play and help us raise funds for building materials," Gebler said.

On Sept. 19, check in begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Participants will enjoy a delicious continental breakfast. Lunch will be served at 3 p.m. Non-participants are welcome to enjoy lunch at the cost of $15 per person.

Following lunch, an awards ceremony will begin along with raffle drawings. Awards will be presented for team prizes, closest to the pin, longest putt and hole-in-one.

Habitat welcomes volunteers at the tournament. Volunteers are needed to serve meals.

"We love volunteers and welcome all to donate time. Habitat is always looking for volunteers for all kinds of projects," Gebler said.
