Get deeper into the Grand Canyon with IMAX
Located one mile south of the south rim entrance to Grand Canyon National Park, the National Geographic Visitor Center / IMAX Theater provides travelers an unparalleled opportunity to enrich their Grand Canyon experience - in under an hour.
The Visitor Center provides tourists with the ultimate orientation to the Grand Canyon with significant enhancements to amenities, regional information, Canyon history, FREE Canyon maps and the continued run of the World's most watched IMAX® film ever...Grand Canyon-The Hidden Secrets. The 35-minute movie shows hourly and penetrates the innermost depths of Grand Canyon taking viewers where they could never go on a giant seven-story high screen with 12,000 watts of digital surround sound. The film moves through time, starting with the mysterious Anasazi who inhabited the Canyon 4,000 years ago, to Major John Wesley Powell's challenges in conquering the unexplored Canyon and raging Colorado River in 1869. Viewers will discover a Grand Canyon that would take a lifetime to experience. Kids 5 and under are FREE!
The National Geographic Visitor Center also offers convenient services such as sightseeing tours (ground and air), National Geographic Store & Exhibits, Arizona Office of Tourism and on-site Park Rangers. Base Camp 1, located within the Visitor Center, is the modern explorer's destination for information, gear and supplies to launch and enhance your Canyon experience. Fuel up before heading to the Canyon at our Explorer's Café which serves pizza (Pizza Hut Express), fresh deli sandwiches, Asian rice bowls, soups, salads, desserts, pastries and more! Avoid the traffic lines and congested parking within the Park by purchasing your National Park Pass here and take a FREE Park & Ride Shuttle into the Park (shuttle pick up is every 15 minutes in front of the Visitor Center). There is ample parking for buses and RV's. Shuttle service is seasonal.
An added value for the 2009 season, book a National Geographic Expeditions Grand Canyon Tour and receive a FREE IMAX Movie pass. Purchase a IMAX movie pass and receive a FREE National Geographic Gift Pack (a $5 value).
