Buford Belgard honored for 50 years of service
WILLIAMS - Longtime resident Buford Belgard, 88, was recognized for half a century's membership in the Masons, receiving a 50-year pin last Saturday in a ceremony attended by 25 lodge members and well-wishers.
Making the presentation were Lodge Master Don Galyon, Past Master Danny Harness and Lodge member and Williams Mayor John Moore.
Belgard was elected into the Grand Canyon Masonic Lodge 40 on Jan. 20, 1958. He went through the degrees and signed the bylaws as a Master Mason on March 31, 1958. For the next decade the Lodge met upstairs in the Community Building at Grand Canyon National Park, with Belgard serving as Lodge Master in 1965. During that time, he worked for the Fred Harvey Co. and he and his wife, Myra Mae, had two daughters, Karen Jeannine and Rebecca Ann.
In 1969 due to dwindling membership, Lodge 40 consolidated with the Williams Lodge where Belgard has remained a member. In 1975, the family moved to Williams, where they bought and ran Gateway Cleaners until their retirement in 1992. Buford and Myra had five grand-children and three great-granddaughters. He was born on May 18, 1920, in Newton, Kan.
