Myra Mae Belgard

Myra Mae Belgard passed into the hands of her Savior on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Rebecca, in Prescott.

Myra Mae was born at Newton, Kan. on May 31, 1921 to Harry H. Brown and Fern M. Brown, the eldest of three children. She grew up in Newton, Kan., attending Newton High, where she met her future husband, Buford Belgard. They were married in Newton on April 20, 1941.

Buford was working at Grand Canyon for the Fred Harvey Company as the laundry and dry cleaning department manager. They made their home at Grand Canyon. While Buford was in the USAF during World War II, Myra returned to Newton. After his discharge from service in 1946, the couple returned to Grand Canyon. They were blessed with two daughters, Karen Jeannine and Rebecca Ann.

Myra was soon involved in the community. She joined and was soon president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a 63 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was president of the Community Church Guild, volunteered at the Community Library, a member of the PTA and also served as president, was involved with the Grand Canyon Hospital Auxiliary and was on hand to help wherever needed. She was a Sunday School teacher at the Grand Canyon Community Church and Brownie Girl Scout Leader for many years.

In 1975, the Belgards moved to Williams, where they retired to work instead, having purchased the Gateway Cleaners, which business they ran until 1992 when they retired.

Myra joined the Eastern Star, where she served as Matron, loved to work at the Methodist Church, belonged to the Church's Ladies' Aid, the Hospital Auxiliary and continued with the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center, especially on Mondays for Bingo Day and Tuesday was her day because she loved to go to the church for the Not-Sew-Perfect Quilters.

Myra is survived by her husband of 67 years, Buford; daughters Karen Stoermer of Las Vegas and Rebecca Terry of Prescott; grandchildren Deona Moore and Mark Stoermer of Las Vegas, Monica (Brian) Hampton of Kirkland, Angela Sweepe of Prescott and Matt Terry of Prescott; and three great-granddaughters Mckenzie, Jenna and Molly Hampton of Kirkland; her sister Dorothy Duerksen of Salina, Kan.; and nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Robert; brother-in-law Ben Duerksen; and her nephew Timothy Duerksen.

A memorial service was held at the Williams Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 with Pastor Billy Martin officiating.

Hampton Mortuary of Prescott was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Her family and friends will miss our beloved Myra Mae, but take comfort in that she is no longer in pain and is with her maker. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Williams Methodist Church, 127 W. Sherman Ave., Williams, AZ 86046.
