A forest fire, reported at noon on Wednesday, was brought under control within a few hours after it was discovered. The fire was on the south side of the hill behind the high school, above the Lost Canyon guest ranch, and the column of smoke was plainly visible from most of the homes in the city. Pete Gonzales and part of the standby crew at Camp Clover were dispatched to the scene, and the fire was controlled with only small damage.
