Durward Glenn Reed
As the final sunset has set on the life of Durward Glenn Reed, his family invites all those interested in the celebration of his life to an "open house" to be held at Buckskinner Park in Williams on June 28, 2008, from 1-3 p.m.
Durward passed on April 18, 2008. No formal services will be held. This will be a gathering time for all family and friends to have a cold drink and to share stories, tell tales, and re-live the many memories that have been made throughout Durward's life.
Durward Glenn Reed was born to Dude and Belle Reed in Williams on Sept. 10, 1930, and lived in Williams the majority of his life. He wore many hats during his life in having worked in road construction, home construction, working on the railroad, working on Glen Canyon Dam, owning a Borden's milk route, and others.
The accomplishment he was most proud of was his pioneering use of the tree shear (AGRA AXE) in the grassland restoration for elk, deer, antelope and cattle. This equipment and method is now used widely throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. He received two conservation stewardship awards for his efforts.
Most, however, will remember him for the hat he wore best ... that of a cowboy. The cattle business was in his blood from his first day to his last. Durward was involved with his family ranch in his childhood; worked several other ranches in his youth; ran a cattle trucking business; and ended his final days as the owner/operator of the "G-H Ranch," or the Reed Ranch, located just outside of Williams.
Durward is survived by his wife and long time companion of 57 years, Lenore Reed; three children, Bonnie Hart of Scottsdale, Sue Lynn Eddy of Williams and Glen Reed of Williams; and his six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He very much enjoyed his family and family gatherings. He always looked for a reason to have such an occasion.
His love of the outdoors was well known in having found work and play there nearly every day of his life. Spending the day hunting, on horseback, or in his later days, riding his ATV (Japanese Quarter Horse); nothing made him happier than enjoying what nature had to offer.
Come celebrate Durward Glenn Reed's life, "One Awesome Cowboy" ... no one loved life more.
