Viking Reunion reunites 150 graduates
They came from near and far - from Williams to Anchorage, Alaska - to attend the Williams High School Viking Class Reunion this past weekend in Williams. The classes of 1967 to 1975 showed up in force with 150 former graduates and their guests making appearances over the two-day event. Memories were shared, family photos compared and the flash bulbs glared. A good time was had by all.
Families were well represented. The Carter family had five members attend, three Racher sisters, three Sullivant sisters, the Grey, Wells and Cureton brothers, and many, many others.
The highlight of the event for many was the reuniting of the "Sweet Lemons," a rock 'n roll band that had played for many of the graduates during their formative years. Band members Dennis Nelson, Bryant McGee, Richard Corona, and Ed Garibay still had what it takes to get this crowd on the dance floor.
They surprised the fun filled crowd with the addition to the band of the two Do Whop girls, Cookie Dent and Barbara Nelson. Barbara also joined in the singing of a couple of Patsy Cline songs. Jan Bardwell, alias "Drummer Girl," also gave Bryant some relief on the drums. It just doesn't get any better than this.
"I am so excited with the turn out and how much fun everyone is having," stated event planner Lauren Evens. "Some of these people I have not seen in15 years."
A special thanks goes out to Teresa Stevens and the crew at the Sultana Bar, the American Legion for cooking the steaks, the WHS athletic department for grilling the hamburgers, and to all those who worked so hard to make this event happen. We hope to do it again real soon - that is four to five years from now - maybe.
