Relay committee meets tonight

The Williams Relay for Life planning committee meets at 7 p.m. tonight at Rosa's Cantina, 411 N. Grand Canyon Blvd.

This year's Relay begins at 6 p.m. July 12 at Cureton Park. Teams are forming now!

Register for Little League Saturday

Another season of Little League baseball and softball is about to begin. Registration for the season begins on Saturday March 8. Register from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, corner of Second Street and Sherman Avenue.

The registration fee is $35 until March 8. After March 8, the fee will be $45. Parents should bring proof of age (birth certificate) and two documents showing proof of residence. These documents are required before children will be allowed to play.

Tryouts are scheduled for March 15 and March 29 at the Little League Field, weather permitting, for all baseball and softball majors division teams. Sign up will be offered on these days. If the weather is bad or the fields are wet, the tryouts will move to the high school gym. The last day to register is March 29.

There will be no tryouts for the minor division.

WEMS celebrates Dr. Seuss Week

Students at the Williams Elementary-Middle School will celebrate Dr. Seuss Week next week. Parents are encouraged to participate.

Students are encouraged to dress for the occasion. Monday is Silly Hat Day and Tuesday is Funniest Socks Day. On March 5, students should dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss book character. Dr. Seuss birthday cake will be served for lunch on March 6. The fun continues March 7 with Mix Up Clothes Day (wear your shirt backwards, pants inside out, etc.).

The sixth grade drama class will perform Dr. Seuss skits at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday for grades kindergarten, first and second. Third, fourth and fifth grade students will be treated to skits at 9:25 a.m. March 5.

Guest readers will be reading their favorite Dr. Seuss stories during library times and a reading contest is under way. Through March 31, students should keep a log of minutes read. The logs must be turned into the library by April 3. The top six readers will be awarded with prizes.

Foundation aids seniors

The March for Meals Walk-a-Thon will be held Saturday March 8, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Williams Senior Center. Walkers, sponsors and donations are still being sought for the upcoming event, according to Senior Center officials.

Funds generated from the walk-a-thon will be matched by the Feinstein Foundation and donations are tax deductible.

Route 66 Pageant returns April 4

One local young lady will be chosen to be Miss Williams Route 66 at 7 p.m. April 4 at Quality Inn Mountain Ranch and Resort. This is the fifth year the pageant has been held locally.

Sponsorship forms and contestant entry forms are available now. Contestant forms can be picked up at Williams High School. The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Friday.

Contestants must be between the ages of 14- to 19-years-old, must be unmarried, currently attending school and must be residing in the zip codes of 86046 or 86018.

Miss Williams will receive $500, the first runner-up will receive $250, second runner-up receives $125 and Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic will receive $50 each.

Hunt Easter eggs March 22

The Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held noon-2 p.m. March 22 at Cureton Park.

Organizers are seeking monetary donations to purchase 400 pre-stuffed baskets. Anyone can sponsor a basket by donating $10. Plastic eggs and candy are also needed. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 444, Williams, AZ 86046.

Volunteers are needed to fill plastic eggs and to hide the eggs on the day of the hunt.

Hunter class offered locally

An Arizona Game and Fish Department-sponsored hunter education class will be held in March at the Bob Dean Rodeo Grounds.

Classes will be offered 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 8, 1-5 p.m. March 9, 6-9 p.m. March 14, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 15, 1-5 p.m. March 16 and 6-9 p.m. March 17.
