Feb. 4, 1943

• The city is in line to lose another desirable family about the 15th of the month as Mr. and Mrs. George Hammer expect to leave at that time. Mr. Hammer, who has been manager of the Sultana Theater for the past four years, expects to enter the armed services about the middle of March and plans to spend the intervening time with his parents in Yuma.

50 years ago

Feb. 6, 1958

• The Williams News has had occasion to write up many robbery stories since it began publication over half a century ago, but today it has the opportunity of printing its own little petty thievery tale.

A metal cash box, containing approximately 833 cents in cash, was missing from the News off ice Tuesday. Indications are that some person or persons, entered the building through a south window. Nothing except the cash box and contents is believed to have been taken.

For anyone thinking of making a big haul, don't try the editor's office. It is a known fact that they never have any money. About the only thing of value in the local office is the printing machinery and to swipe any of that would require some ingenuity, and plain hard labor.

35 years ago

Feb. 8, 1973

• A hill, some snow and something to ride on while going down the grade combine for winter fun for local youngsters. Probably since Slagel Street was cleared of timber "back when," it has been the major location of wintertime fun for Williams youth.

Most motorists are aware that when there is snow on the ground, there will be sleds on the hill and they drive cautiously in that area. Sometimes the youngsters post lookouts to warn the downward bound that a car is coming. Other times the sledder is on his own.
