Turning complaints into thankfulness

It seems that once you reach the age of 70, the only thing that goes fast is time. And just last week, it was Thanksgiving again. Good Lord, I have been through 73 Thanksgivings and Maverick has been through 83. Some of the Thanksgivings have been just okay and some have been terrible, but most have been wonderful.

This year was the most wonderful Thanksgiving ever. As an early birthday gift combined with a special Thanksgiving Day gift, my best friend surprised me with a round-trip train trip to see my grandson in California.

There are so many reasons for all of us to be thankful - a good husband, wife or whomever you are with. A whole bunch of wonderful, wonderful friends who work here and have worked here. And it seems that every single day here in the Canyon we can make brand new ones. Another reason is the place itself. How many of us here in the United States can wake up every morning to this beautiful place to see the sun come up and the sun go down, and each is so different. I am also so thankful to still be able to work. I love it and really look forward to going to work in the morning. I wish everybody in the Canyon loved their jobs as much as I do. And everybody knows how much Maverick loves what he does, and he can do it any time he wants to.

All the different people come from all over just to see where we live. We may not be able to speak any of their languages, but just a smile or kind gesture does so much to make up what we cannot say or understand.

I received another list via the Internet called "Why I Am Thankful."

I am thankful for the wife who says "It's hot dogs tonight," because she is with me at home and not out with somebody else.

I am thankful for the husband who is on the sofa being a couch potato, because he's home with me and not out at the bars.

I am thankful for the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because it means she is at home and not on the streets.

I am thankful for the taxes I pay, because it means that I am employed.

I am thankful for the mess to clean up after a party, because it means I have been surrounded by friends.

I am thankful for the clothes that fit a little too snugly, because it means I have enough to eat.

I am thankful for my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine.

I am thankful for the lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home.

I am thankful for all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means I have freedom of speech.

I am thankful for the huge heating bill, because it means I am warm.

I am thankful for the lady behind me at church who sings off-key, because it means I can hear.

I am thankful for the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clean clothes to wear.

I am thankful for the weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of working hard.

I am thankful for the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means I am still alive.

And the last thing, I am thankful for the crazy people I work with, because they make work interesting and fun.

Thought for the week: "Live well, laugh often and love with all your heart." - Unknown
