Small contributions are significant when combined
One thing that is awesome about living in a small town is the generosity of the people. And Williams is no exception when it comes to generosity. Whenever there is a need, most happily contribute.
Next month the community will congratulate the Williams High School Class of 2008 - wishing our youth the best - as they head for the real world. Several local organizations and individuals will award scholarships to students that will help them achieve their dreams at trade or technical schools, community college and the university level. Much of this would not be possible without community support.
The Williams Rotary Club raised more than $22,000 March 8 during their annual Western Auction. Businesses and individuals generously donated merchandise that was raffled and auctioned that night. Those in attendance were generous in their bidding, raising a record amount of money.
The Williams Habitat for Humanity offered its 11th Opry Night last Friday. Opry Night has become popular in Williams and is a fun night for a good cause. Our local Habitat group is fundraising to build another home for a deserving family. Every dollar spent at Opry Night was one dollar closer to Habitat's goal.
A few weeks ago, folks contributed $1,000 to WHS Slab Crabs by eating enchiladas. Yes, eating a plate of enchiladas seems small. But traveling to Minnesota to compete in the National Battle Bot Competition is huge for our local team.
More fundraisers are coming our way. Let's continue displaying our generosity. Let's have fun eating pancakes together while we purchase raffle tickets for prizes that have been donated. Let's see what we can donate in the future. Sometimes we're having so much fun we don't realize how significant our small contributions can become when combined with others. Let's continue having fun while making Williams a better place.
