Rotary plans chili cookoff, grant awards
Grand Canyon Rotary is calling all chefs to take part in their annual chili cookoff on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Tusayan Fire Department.
Entry categories are traditional chili, alternative chili (green, chicken or vegetarian), salsa, cornbread and tortillas. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and a $50 prize will be awarded to the people's choice. Pre-registration isn't required; just bring your entries to the Fire Station by 5 p.m.
The community is invited to sample the entries for free starting at 5:30 p.m. It's recommended that tasters arrive early as the chili usually goes fast. Beer, water and soft drinks will be available for sale.
Applications are also being accepted for a new round of community grants, with recipients to be announced at the chili cookoff. To apply, send a letter describing your organization and how they plan to use the money to Grand Canyon Rotary, Community Grant Committee, P.O. Box 699, Grand Canyon, Ariz., 86023.
