Walk to School Day is Oct. 3

Do you care about the health and safety of the youth of our community? Do you enjoy taking an occasional early morning walk? If so, the Williams Safe Routes to School program needs your help.

The group is recruiting and coordinating volunteers to assist with walk to school events including the first event, the International Walk to School Day, on Oct. 3. Those who normally arrive by automobile or bus will also have the chance to participate by being dropped off at a park and walk location and walking the rest of the way to school with other students, parents and adult volunteers. The group also plans to encourage more activity in our youth by offering various opportunities such as walking clubs, biking clubs and hiking clubs.

A volunteer orientation session will be scheduled. Applications and further information will be provided at that time.

Anyone interested in encouraging youth to be more active by supporting this program should contact Doris Ann Mertz at (928) 635-9645.
