Free firewood available on North Kaibab

The North Kaibab Ranger District will issue free personal use fuelwood permits for green pinyon pine and juniper beginning tomorrow.

The permits allow cutting and removal of up to four cords per household in specifically defined areas of the district. The fuelwood must be for personal use only, not commercial sale.

Free use cutting in the Ryan One area will be allowed through the winter and permits will be valid through October 2008.

Free use permits are limited in number and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis at the North Kaibab Ranger District office at 430 South Main St. in Fredonia.

These permits continue the implementation of the Ryan One Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project, which will improve about 1,100 acres of mule deer winter range habitat.
