An autographed Christmas
Authors will converge on Java Cycle Café Dec. 8
There is something about the cool pines and rustic living of northern Arizona and the Williams area in particular, that makes many put pen to paper or, in many cases, fingers to keyboards. Whether they write about the day itself, detailing the wonderful weather, or compose a poem about the trials of early life in the west, writers seem to be in abundance in our small corridor of Route 66.
Many of these writers, from all walks of literary life, will gather at the Java Cycle Café in Williams Dec. 8 as part of a special holiday book-signing event offered by café owner Louise Clemmer.
"I am so proud to be in a town where there are several book clubs, where people read, not only the best sellers, but also classics and you can talk to several people about books," Clemmer said, adding that she had no difficulty in getting the writers to become involved in the large signing event.

"They were all very excited about it," Clemmer said. "I also like the idea of having such an adverse collection of writers, for travel and fiction, children's books and non-fiction and ghost stories. Wonderful authors like Patrick Whitehurst, with his book 'Legends, Ghosts and Superstitions of Williams and the Grand Canyon,' and Kris Williams, who's a sixth grade teacher in town, a science teacher, and her children's book called 'JD's Beast,' we also have the famous northern Arizona children's book author Linda Kranz and her book, 'Only One You,' and her children's journals to get children writing, which is a wonderful thing for children. She has a teen journals and she has a young child's journal. She'll be coming in and signing her books. 'Only One You' is a very popular book all around the country that she has written. She's from Flagstaff.
"We also have Christine Maxa and her 'Arizona Best Autumn Color 50 Great Hikes,' 'Best Wild Life Hikes in Arizona,' and her 'Best Bike Trails in Arizona,' and she's bringing a new one in. She'll be here to sign all her northern Arizona travel books. Another writer is Gary McCarthy; he's also a local author. He's bringing in his historical novels, 'Yosemite' and 'Grand Canyon.' They make great keepsakes and we'll be happy to gift wrap them after they're signed of course. The authors will each have their own tables so that you can sit down and talk with the author and get your book personalized, which makes an even better gift."
The event will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Singer Vyktoria Pratt Keating will take center stage for a special Christmas concert directly following the book signing event. Java Cycle will also offer 10 percent off their drinks Dec. 8 as part of the signing.
