Forgiveness extended to person that poisoned dog
To the editor:
I just lost a good friend and companion, Buddy. Yes, he is a dog, only five-years-old, but he died from poison.
Buddy had a lot of friends in Williams and Red Lake out on Highway 64. I brought him to soccer practice a few years ago. I also enjoyed lots of bike rides and hikes with him. We hiked down the Grand Canyon together every spring. This spring, I'll have only memories of him and his own backpack having a great time.
Buddy also came to work with me sometimes at the convenience store out here in Red Lake. I didn't have to worry about other dogs, strangers or bobcats when I went exploring or horseback riding with him by my side.
Buddy had a loving home with two other dogs that are now depressed because he is gone. Buddy got along with our cats, rabbits, chickens, goats, sheep, llama, steer and horse. He was also good at making other animal or people friends when he knew they weren't strangers.
I went to Mexico with a church group to feed some poor families down there. I wanted Buddy kept tied up so he didn't go wandering around in the neighborhood while my family and I were gone. We left Friday and came back Sunday. Buddy was so full of energy after being tied for three days that he decided to run off while nobody was watching. Monday morning we found him but it was too late, the poison took his life.
A neighbor had the same thing happen to her three dogs, but two of them survived after being rushed to the vet. The poison was a bait, someone out on Hoctor Road is poisoning dogs. I want to warn my neighbors to keep an eye on their dogs so they don't leave like Buddy did.
Buddy has ran off many times before. I want to say sorry to anyone he has been a bother to. Buddy had some friends he would go visit while wandering around, but I guess he also had enemies. I understand. Other dogs bother us as well and will steal a chicken if they could. Buddy leaves our livestock alone and I hope he has done the same for everyone else. I am sorry if he has hurt anything somewhere else. I forgive whoever put the poison out.

Resident thanks city employee
To the editor:
A big thank you to Mr. Glenn Cornwell and his helpers for a job well done on the sidewalks on Hancock (most of Hancock Avenue).
We all have waited for so long and it has finally been completed. They also seem to be holding their own. The first job was bad two weeks after it was finished. So far this one has passed the two-week period.
The good thing about this job is that Mr. Cornwell is here in town and he will answer all your questions and carry them out, thanks again.
I often wonder, why contract outsiders come and fix our problems, with all the local contractors in Williams. Some do the job and they are gone, well done or not. Thank you one more time.
