Lighting contest winners to be honored Dec. 21
87 enter lighting contest

Once again Williams is celebrating the holiday season with more lights and activities than ever. The staff of the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce thanks all of this year's business and residential lighting contest participants. A total combined number of entries topped 87. Everyone's effort, hard work and holiday spirit has turned Williams into a true Christmas town.

The winners of this year's Mountain Village Holiday "Dreams of Christmas" lighting contest have been selected. Contest winners will be honored during an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Best Western Inn of Williams lounge, 2600 W. Route 66.

First place winners in the residential contest include Kevin Duffy, 334 E. Sheridan Ave., Best Depiction of Theme; Tom and Sharri Hughes, 2737 W. Augusta Dr., Best Lighting Effect; and

Christina Sandoval, 631 W. Oak St., Best Creativity.

Second place winners are Sarah MacRae and Michael Combs, 421 E. Fulton Ave., Best Depiction of Theme; Mark Lucas and Craig Church, 1010 W. Morse Ave., Best Lighting Effect; and Jack and Juanita McFarland, 1843 Country Club Dr., Best Creativity.

Third place winners include Robert Scott, 528 S. 11th St., Best Depiction of Theme; Lawrence and Stella Sanchez, 400 W. Edison Ave., Best Lighting Effect; and Frank and Amy Kramer, 218 E. Edison Ave., Best Creativity.

Evelyn Hareson of 107 N. 5th St. won the Holiday Spirit Prize (499 lights or less).

Winners of the business lighting contest include Canyon Gateway RV Park, RV Parks; Grand Canyon Railway, Large Hotels; Pine Country Restaurant, Restaurants and also the winner of this year's Judges' Trophy; Canyon Country Inn, Small Hotels; Mountain Joy Treasures & Gifts, Small Retail; Colors of the West, Large Retail; and Wild West Junction, Other.

The judges for the residential lighting contest were Ann Wells and students from the Williams High School National Honor Society. Angel Antencio and students from the WHS Future Business Leaders of America judged businesses.

Sponsors include APS, city of Williams, Williams Clean & Beautiful, Safeway, Cowen McGee Properties, Williams Realty & Christmas Tree Gallery, Clips on 66, Pine Country Restaurant, TNT Bookkeeping & Office Supply, Native America, Sundancers, White Horse Trading Company and Williams Nursery.

Grand Canyon Old West Jeep Tours, located at 202 W. Route 66, is offering jeep tours of the lighting contest entries for a fee. Participant addresses are also available at the Visitor Center, 200 W. Railroad Ave., for self guided tours.
