James (Jim) Robert Stickler

Jim Stickler was given his peace in the early hours of July 26, 2007. He was born to Robert James and Florence Stickler on Dec. 20, 1945, in Henderson, Nev. He moved with his family to Yuma, Ariz., only months later and spent his grade school years at Immaculate Conception School in Yuma.

In 1959 he moved with his family to Page, Ariz., where he attended Page High School as a popular member of the class of 1963. He was well known for his feats on the basketball court and in other sports.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors, becoming an accomplished fisherman and hunter. He continued these activities throughout his lifetime, spending many leisure hours roaming around the forests of the North Kaibab Plateau and South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

During his high school years, Jim started working at Babbitt Brothers Grocery in Page. He continued with this career throughout his lifetime. He rose to manager in Page, and also worked in stores in Flagstaff, Holbrook and Grand Canyon. Known by all as the consummate groceryman, Jim was respected by many friends and associates in the industry. After a period of being in business with his brothers in northern Arizona, Jim began again with Babbitts at the Grand Canyon in the early 1990s and continued until his death.

He will be very much missed by his family and friends around the card table, and especially at the hunting camps, where he would settle back, pop a cold one and say, "Well.....we're huntin' now!"

Jim is survived by his longtime devoted partner, Barbara Fischer of Grand Canyon; sons Patrick (Vikki) Stickler of Flagstaff and Robert Stickler of Grand Canyon; daughter Samantha Stickler of Grand Canyon/UNLV, Las Vegas, Nev.; children Denise and Jay of California; brothers Michael (Dorothea) Stickler of Page, Patrick Stickler of Page, Geoffrey (Gail) Stickler of Flagstaff and John Casey (Lisa) of Valle; sisters Margaret (Ed) Wescott of Texas/Saudi Arabia and Mary (Gordon) Blank of Mesa.

Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Shrine Of The Ages with interment following at Grand Canyon Cemetery. A reception will be held after the service at the upstairs banquet room at the Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn.

Arrangements were made by Norvel Owens Mortuary of Flagstaff.
