Red Feather takes title in pre-season softball tourney
Fresh off their 2005 championship, the Red Feather softball team picked up where they left off by winning the pre-season tournament.
The nine-game tourney, which was organized to raise money for the newly-formed girls Little League softball team, was held from Friday-Sunday.
In addition to the $150 raised for the girls team, Red Feather coach Perry Smith also donated the winner's portion to complete the total $250 donation.
Emmons Berry, President of the Grand Canyon Youth Activities board, said "We are very grateful for Commissioner Jeff Doryland's hard work and the team's generous donations to help our kids acquire the necessary equipment to play ball."
The proceeds of last year's post-season tournament raised enough money to purchase equipment and uniforms for the boys Little League team.
The Adult Co-ed Softball League's regular season started Monday and will run through the end of July. There are eight teams including Red Feather, We Cook Pizza, McDonald's, Xanterra All-Stars, NPS, School/Albright, Xanterra Independent and The Squire.
