Vail new board president in annual reorganization
The School Board took care of annual housekeeping business in a special organizational meeting preceding the regular meeting.
Clarinda Vail was voted president of the board. Tammie Harris was re-elected as clerk.
As was the case last year, official sites for the posting the agenda are on bulletin boards outside the district office, inside Grand Canyon Post Office, outside Tusayan General Store and outside Canyon Village Marketplace.
The agenda will continue to be posted unofficially on the bulletin board inside Canyon Village Marketplace, at Xanterra's Personnel and General offices, at the National Park Service mail room and bulletin board at the Squire Inn in Tusayan.
The format for the agenda wasn't changed.
Before the board completed a vote to keep their meeting time the same as last year second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. -- parent Laura Harner asked if they might consider a new meeting place.
"The acoustics and seating are bad in the library," she said. "The music room has better acoustics."
Maintenance Director Andrew Aldaz said that School Board meetings used to be held in that room until part of the space was lost to the nurse's station and the risers.
"It must have been a lot of years ago," said long-time Board member Chuck
He suggested that the Board approve the existing time and place at least for the time being, then explore the issue and modify the vote if needed.
The board also renewed authorization for Superintendent Sheila Breen to operate as chief administrative officer for the Grand Canyon district.
