Rotary hosts chili cook-off
The Grand Canyon Rotary hosts its annual chili cook-off tonight at the Grand Hotel's north parking lot. Contestants must have their chili at the event by 4:30 p.m., with tasting beginning at 5. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bowl and spoon but these will be provided if needed. There is no fee to enter or to taste. Soda, beer and water will be available for sale.
Categories include red, green (chili verde), meatless, salsa and cornbread. Entries must identify the kind of meat used. The grand prize winner receives $50 and winners in each category will have their entry fees paid in the Valle Chili Meet on Oct. 22.
Community grants will also be announced this evening.
