Between March 6-10, U.S. Park Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park responded to the following:
Saturday, March 6
• Rangers gave eight verbal warnings for speeding, and one each for a stop sign violation, unsafe operation, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and a vehicle registration violation.
• A driver was cited for illegal parking.
• A vehicle slid off the road.
• Rangers gave a written warning for a business permit violation.
• Prank phone calls were reported.
• A grain silo roof on the North Rim was damaged by snow.
• A man was cited by Inner Canyon rangers for not having a backcountry permit.
• An overdue hiker was located outside the park.
Sunday, March 6
• A gas leak was reported at the Bright Angel kitchen.
• A 66-year-old man was treated following a loss of consciousness.
• A visitor was cited for obstructing traffic and two drivers were cited for speeding.
• Rangers gave seven verbal warnings for speeding, one for erratic driving and one for a safety equipment violation.
• A visitor was contacted for failing to pay the entrance fee.
• Inner Canyon rangers warned a camper for littering at Bright Angel Campground.
Monday, March 7
• Rangers cited a driver for speeding. They also gave four verbal warnings for speeding, two for stop sign violations and two for vehicle equipment violations.
• Two people were warned for feeding wildlife.
• Street lights were vandalized.
• Rangers investigated a weapons violation.
• A tour operator received a written warning for operating without an incidental business permit.
• A separated party was reunited.
Tuesday, March 8
• Four drivers were warned for speeding, two for vehicle equipment violations, one for a vehicle registration violation, one for expired registration and one for no proof of insurance.
• A driver was cited for speeding and another was cited for having no proof of insurance.
• A driver was cited in an auto vs auto accident for failure to maintain control.
• A transmission fluid leak created a hazardous condition.
• A camper was warned for an unattended fire.
• Rangers assisted visitors, returning property, reuniting separated parties and helping with propane tanks.
• A 54-year-old woman with an ankle injury was flown from Three-mile House on the Bright Angel Trail.
• A hiker was cited for creating a hazardous condition by cutting switchbacks on the Bright Angel Trail.
• A camper was warned at Indian Garden for a closure violation.
Wednesday, March 9
• A man was treated after he fainted and a 58-year-old woman for abdominal pain.
• Rangers gave five warnings for speeding, two for a stop sign violation and one for off-road travel. They also cited a driver for speeding.
• Four drivers were cited for parking violations and a vehicle was impounded for illegal parking.
• A man was cited for an intermittent business permit violation.
• Six people were injured in a two-car accident.
• A report of a stolen vehicle was investigated.
• An assault report was under investigation.
• Phantom Ranch rangers changed two permits and reunited a separated party on Bright Angel Trail.
• Weed eradication was ongoing at Phantom Ranch.
• A man was cited for walking on an archaeological site at Phantom Ranch.
• A camper was warned for a camping violation.
Thursday, March 10
• A 52-year-old woman was treated for a knee laceration.
• A dumpster fire was extinguished.
• Rangers assisted the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office with a bar fight at the Grand Hotel in Tusayan.
• Cash was reported stolen.
• A warning was given for an intermittent business permit violation.
• A camper was warned for being out of bounds.
• A driver was warned for obstructing traffic.
• Tyrone Young was arrested for sexual assault.
• A 50-year-old woman with a broken wrist was flown from Utah Flats.
• A hiker was cited for being off itinerary.
• A camper received a written warning for a camping violation at Bright Angel campground.
