Martin T. Merryman

Martin T. Merryman, 69, died Wed., June 1, 2005. He was born July 14, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Marvin and Pricilla Merryman. Both parents preceded him in death.

Martin was a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways in Cincinnati, from 1968-1982. In 1982 the company moved their operation to Flagstaff and he transferred with the company. He received a three million-mile truck safety award from the company. He retired from CF in 1995. He resided in Flagstaff until 2000. He has resided in Williams until his death.

He was a pilot since 1965 and was well known and respected in the general aviation community throughout Arizona. His pilot credentials flight rated to an Air Transport Pilot. He was active in the FAA Flight Safety/Wings Program and was a flight safety counselor. He conducted remedial pilot training for the Scottsdale FSDO and has organized and run the P.A.C.E. program. He was a part-time instructor at Coconino Community College, teaching ground school classes. He was awarded the Safety Counselor of the Year Award for Arizona in 1995. He was involved in flying school students in the Make a Difference Day in Flagstaff. He helped transport retired racing greyhounds to a safe facility in Utah. He took NPR host, Mr. Simon, of Weekend Edition, on a flight over Flagstaff and it was aired on the program.

Martin was a member of the Northern Arizona Antique Tractor and Engine Club. With the help of friends he restored a 1941 Farmal Tractor. He was a member of the Arizona Pilots Association, Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, American Bonanza Society, National Association of Flight Instructors, and Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Northern Arizona Friend of NRA, American Legion Cordova Post No. 13, and ARRL No. WA8UQD. He was an active participant in the American Cancer Society's Williams Relay for Life.

Martin is survived by his wife, LaRita Merryman; daughters Martha Kaising, Marilyn Calahan, Maureen Beam and Melissa Quesnell, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, John Merryman of Dry Ridge, Ky.; a sister, Marty Merryman of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren who reside in Cincinnati, Ohio; and his beloved dog, Toby, who resides in Williams.

A memorial celebration of his life was held on Mon., June 6, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Nativity Catholic Church in Flagstaff. A lunch/reception followed the service. Internment will follow at a later time. Arrangements were entrusted to Norvel G. Owens of Flagstaff.

Jesus V. Brambila

Jesus V. Brambila, 65, of Williams, died on May 29, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital in Phoenix. 

He was born on Feb. 19, 1940 in Mexico to Peter and Guadalupe Brambila. He worked as a gas mixer for a chemical company for many years and moved to Arizona 2 1/2 years ago.  Jesus enjoyed hunting, fishing and he had a strong faith in God. Jesus once was a minister. He loved and enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren.

Jesus is survived by his children, Elizabeth L. Minor, Maria Brambila, Peter A. Brambila, Brian M. Brambila , Frank P. Brambila and seven grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Brambila in 1977 and his mother, Guadalupe Brambila.

Funeral service will be held on Fri., June 10, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, 117 S. Slagel St. Pastor Mike Kuykendall will officiate. Burial will follow services at the Williams Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Norvel Owens Mortuary of Flagstaff.
