Nothing but net with start of Williams AYSO soccer
The Williams AYSO soccer teams opened their season with home games July 9 at the Williams High School fields.
There are six Williams teams in the league ‹ the U6 girls and U6 boys ("U" meaning under, for age determination), the U8 girls/U8 boys, and the U12 girls and boys ‹ which also features teams from Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Williams teams were ready to start the season with a bang and they did so with the following scores.
The U12 Girls Mighty Dynamites, coached by the Rotters, opened with a 9 a.m. game against the Flagstaff Sour Apples. The Dynamites took the win with Krystol Yazzie scoring four goals and Tana Schulte scoring one.
The U12 Boys Terminators, coached by Rocky Hernandez, played at 10:30 a.m. against Flagstaff Quick Silver. Ivan Ruiz scored the lone goal for the Terminators with them losing to the Flagstaff Quick Silver team 6-1.
The U8 Boys Orange Venoms, coached by Jennifer Cardenas, came away with a win against the Blue Sharks. The Venoms outscored the sharks 8-1 with Christian Ramirez scoring five goals, Cory Hemenway scoring one and Tyler scoring two.
The U8 Girls Orange Tigers, coached by Anderson Yazzie, ended with a 3-3 tie against the Purple Panthers, with Teddy Yazzie scoring two goals and Tori Walters scoring one.
The U6 Girls Wild Horses, coached by Julie McFarland, squeezed by with a 3-2 win against the Little Sour Apples. Kami Lawrence and Tori both scored one goal each with Kaitlyn Russell getting the winning shot.
The U6 boys Ninja Turtles, coached by Kelly Yazzie, was up against the Flagstaff Ninja Turtles but lost 6-2. Noah Walters and Pace Mortensen each scored goals for the Williams Ninja Turtles.
The next home games are scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. in Williams.
