Arts For Our Parks showcases student talent<br>
This year’s Arts for Our Parks poster, designed by Grand Canyon senior Miguel Davila.
An opening reception will be held at Kolb Studio on Tuesday, March 1, from 7-9 p.m. Performing will be Native American flute player David Wolf’s Robe. The exhibition runs through March 21.
There were 200 entries from students in grades kindergarten-12; 59 were juried as finalists and will be on display at Kolb Studio.
Award categories are:
One Grand Prize winner.
One Superintendent’s Award as judged by park Superintendent Joe Alston, School Superintendent Sheila Breen and Albright Training Center Superintendent Costa Dillon.
Grades three through five – first, second, third and six honorable mentions.
Grades six through eight – first, second, third and three honorable mentions.
Grades nine-12 – first, second, third and one honorable mention.
A new award this year will be for the winning entry in the “recyclable” category. The park’s chief of environmental education Jacob Fillion has been asked to jury this award.
This is the second year that the school, in conjunction with Grand Canyon Association, has held the event.
Posters for the event are available for sale with proceeds going to the Arts For Our Parks scholarship fund. For more information on purchasing one, contact the school at 638-2461.
