Vikings blow out Mayer for home advantage in playoffs
At 6:11 in the first quarter, number 53 Brandon Jackson put the first two points on the board with a safety. Shortly after, a five-yard Ryan Barnes run coupled with a pass to Chance Grantham, number 21, for the two-point conversion upped the score 10-zip.

“We don’t kick extra points at Williams. We go for the two-point conversion every time after a touchdown,” explained Shipley.

First quarter punishment didn’t stop there, however. With only 27 seconds before second quarter, running back Garrett Hendel grabbed a 22-yard pass to give the home team 16 unanswered points.

Mariano Zabala had the distinction of being the only player in the second quarter with a touchdown. He received his from a six yard run. Another two points were slapped on the scoreboard as number 8 Jesse Pentecost brought in a conversion pass from Barnes.

Zabala had the spotlight again early on in the third catching a 17-yard pass to bring the Vikings to 30-0. The points kept piling on with 12-yard touchdown pass snagged by Grantham and another two-point conversion run by Barnes.

Finally, with 1:19 left in the fourth quarter, insult was added to injury and the 42-point mercy rule ended the game when Grantham intercepted a 21-yard Mayer pass for a final score of 44.

The Vikings will play Benson in Williams this Friday at 7 p.m. in first-round playoff action. Benson is the number three team in the southern division and boasts an 8-1-1 record. The Vikings are the number two seed in the north.
