Local student remembers 9-11
I am writing about Sept. 11, 2001. When the planes crashed into the Twin Towers, and the Pentagon the police came to help. Not long after they arrived, the second plane crashed and the two buildings collapsed.
By that time it was on the news. My grandma called my mom and asked her if we had heard what happened. My mom had not known about the terrorist attack yet. She turned the news channel on and was surprised to see it.
I was at school in my classroom. My teacher put the news on and I was shocked about what was going on. At school we left the news on all day. We thought we could help by having a bake sale to raise money for the people in New York.
When the buildings collapsed 2,850 innocent people lost their lives, the terrorists were trying to make a point to the United States. It was a big mess. Too many innocent people lost their lives because of it. When the buildings fell it was dusty. The air was dirty and debris was everywhere.
The fourth plane crashed into a field because an American risked his life and took over the plane from the terrorists. It has been two years since it has happened. Now there is nothing but the ground where the Twin Towers were. The Pentagon has been repaired. I think they should rebuild the Twin Towers.

Citizen of the year thanks Lions Club
Thanks so much to Mrs. Patty Williams and the Lions Club members for honoring me with the Citizen of the Year Award. It is much appreciated.
Each year more than 15,000 people lose their sight because of diabetes. Diabetic eye disease is the number one cause of new blindness in people between the ages of 25 and 74.
The Lions Club has been a wonderful organization and has sponsored us in the past. To enable us to have free screenings to detect early symptoms of diabetes and prevent complications that can arise such as blindness, kidney disease, amputations, heart disease and stroke.
We thank you for your help and congratulations on your 59-year anniversary.
Our continued thanks to Cindy, Barbara, Nora, Norma, Jamie, Robert and Dr. Mabel Woo of Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in Flagstaff for helping us at the diabetes screening on May 31.
With the support of the Williams Health Care Center and its staff and the Lions Club, our efforts to promote diabetes awareness in Williams has been very successful because of all of you.
Diabetes affects the community of Williams and surrounding areas. We are here to bring awareness and provide education and information on living well with diabetes that gives you the tools to take control of your life and not let diabetes control you.
We meet the first Thursday of every month at the Williams Senior Center, 850 W. Grant Ave. from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Thank you, Armando Padilla, for providing the facility to have our meetings.
