During the period of June 26-July 4, U.S. Park Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park responded to the following incidents:

Thursday, June 26

• An emergency medical call was taken at Deer Creek Falls (river mile 136) via satellite phone of a 34-year-old man with anaphylactic shock after being stung by an unknown insect on his neck. The man experienced an onset of hives, swollen tongue and difficulty breathing. The man was treated and flown out to the South Rim, and then transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

• An emergency medical call was taken about one-half mile below Tip-Off of a 49-year-old man experiencing vomiting and extreme fatigue. A Phantom ranger hiked up the trail and located the man near the Train Wreck area. After treatment and rest, the man continued to Phantom, but began vomiting again near Little Panorama Point. The man was then flown out and transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

Friday, June 27

• An emergency medical call was taken at the West Rim interchange of a 6-year-old girl who temporarily lost consciousness. Treatment was refused.

• Rangers responded to a report of a motor-vehicle accident at the South Entrance Station. An abandoned Ford F-150 pickup was found. At 4:30 a.m., the vehicle was driven off the road, side-swiped a tree and became stuck in a culvert.

• Rangers responded to a request for assistance from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office for three individuals trespassing at a Tusayan campground.

• Rangers took a report of a minor traffic accident without injuries at Mather Point.

• Rangers responded to a report of domestic violence in Trailer Village. A verbal warning was issued to a couple for their conduct.

• An emergency medical call was taken at Pipe Creek of a woman (age not reported) suffering from heat exhaustion. The woman hiked to the river and was attempting to return to the rim.

• An emergency medical call was taken at Havasu Creek of a 50-year-old woman with diabetic problems. The woman was flown out and transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

Saturday, June 28

• Rangers responded to a report of a motor-vehicle accident at Mather Point. A vehicle attempting to back out of a parking space struck a passing vehicle.

• An emergency medical call was taken at Mather Point of a woman (age not reported) with shortness of breath and dizziness. The woman actually had a sore throat and refused care.

• Rangers issued verbal warnings to two residents at Maswik Cabins for illegal fireworks. Each person had sparklers. All fireworks are illegal in the park.

• An emergency medical call was taken on the Colorado River of a 34-year-old man who fell and injured his arm. The man was flown out transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

• An emergency medical call was taken at Cottonwood Campground of a 54-year-old woman suffering from dehydration. The woman, who had hiked down from the North Rim the previous day, was flown out and transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

• An emergency medical call was taken at Phantom Ranch of a 16-year-old girl who suffered an ankle injury and was unable to hike. The girl was transported via river from the confluence with the Little Colorado River to Phantom Ranch. The girl was flown out and transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

Sunday, June 29

• Rangers responded to a request for assistance from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a driving under the influence of alcohol case.

• Rangers responded to a request for assistance from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a domestic violence case. A suspect was arrested and transported to Flagstaff.

• Rangers responded to a report of a motor-vehicle accident in the park (site not reported). The vehicle struck a deer, causing $3,000 damage to a rental car. There were no injuries. The deer left the scene.

• An emergency medical call was taken (site not reported) of a 20-year-old man with shaking, weakness and a near-fainting episode. The man refused care against medical advice.

• An emergency medical call was taken on the Colorado River (river mile 166) of a 14-year-old boy with a high temperature and signs of dehydration. The boy was flown out and transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

Monday, June 30

• An emergency medical call was taken (site not reported) of a 55-year-old woman who suffered a ground-level fall. The woman was transported to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic.

• Rangers responded to a report of disorderly conduct at Lookout Studio involving a father who allegedly punched his daughter with his fist. There was no description of the suspect and rangers were unable to locate him.

• Carl Betancourt, 29, Grand Canyon, was arrested on a warrant out of magistrate’s court for an original charge of false information.

• Rangers responded to a report of marijuana smoke coming from two rooms on the third floor of the El Tovar Hotel. No smell was found upon arrival.

• An emergency medical call was taken at Canyon View Information Plaza of a 51-year-old woman who suffered a ground-level fall. The woman refused treatment.

• Rangers responded to a request from Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic for air transport to Flagstaff Medical Center for a male with an altered level of consciousness. The man was transferred to Guardian Medical Transport for the flight to Flagstaff.
