School board’s Lindig<br>works his final meeting
The Grand Canyon School Board met for a special session on Dec. 17 to take care of routine matters and conduct an evaluation of superintendent Ray Vernon.

It was also the final meeting of Nicky Lindig, who did not seek re-election to his seat on the board. He will be replaced by Tammie Harris, who ran for election in November.
The other four school board members thanked Lindig for his service and presented him with a going-away cake.
On the matter of business, the board went into executive session for the superintendent’s evaluation. There was no action taken upon returning from the executive session.
In other news from the meeting:
o The board approved 5-0 Maryann Lawton as special education instructional aide for the rest of this school year.
o The board approved 4-1 (Bess Foster nay) a revision of the registrar-records and maintenance clerk job description. The position was approved for 16 hours per week. The job was renamed part-time registrar-records clerk.
o The board approved 5-0 a new contract for Spanish teacher Bertha Martinez. There had been some delays with the teacher’s paperwork in regards to working in the United States.
o The board accepted 4-1 (Jon Streit nay) the resignation of Margaret Gearman as high-school cheer coach. There was lengthy discussion among the board on the issue. The cheer squad is seeking a new sponsor and will reportedly continue to perform at home basketball games.
