Appreciates local support of override
On behalf of the Williams Unified School District Governing Board, its faculty and students, I would like to extend a word of gratitude for the support of the recent override election. Although our district is in better financial condition than when the override was first approved three years ago, projections emanating from the legislature portend serious cuts in funding for K-12 education throughout the state.
Had it not been for voter approval, the impact of these anticipated cuts would have most likely been devastating to our program. For our part, we pledge to continue to put these resources to the best possible use of our students, and again we thank the Williams community for its collective support.

Great race needs
The Great Race Committee held its first meeting Feb. 27 to discuss preliminary plans. The race will be rolling into Williams on Wednesday, June 19. One thing is for sure — we need more folks to get involved. Are you wondering what you could do? We have several subcommittees such as decorating, hospitality, promotion, entertainment, sponsorship, plus several others.
The theme for our big bash this year is “50 Years of Kicks on Route 66.” We are planning on showcasing five decades — the 1920s through the 1960s — with one block of Route 66 dedicated to reliving the history and fun of each 10-year span.
Got you thinking? We need everyone — moms and dads, kids, church groups, civic groups, grandmas and grandpas, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school groups. Can you wave a flag? Can you hand out water? Can you sing? Do you like to act or dress up? Do you like old cars? This event is for you. You’ll have a blast we promise, and you could help us win $5,000 for the Williams Library.
Our next meeting is 5 p.m. today (March 27) at Rosa’s Cantina. Please join us or call Phil or Annette Satterlee at 635-4493 or Diana Croteau at the Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce (635-1418) to find out how you can have a great time.
