During the period of Sept. 15-22, U.S. Park Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park responded to the following incidents:

Saturday, Sept. 15

o Rangers responded to a hit-and-run (site not reported). The suspect was later located and information was exchanged.

Sunday, Sept. 16

o Rangers took a report from a female guest at the Maswik Lodge who stated someone had entered her room, but did not take anything. An investigation revealed that the housekeeper had entered the room, cleaned and upon leaving, did not secure the door.

o An emergency medical call was taken at the Maswik Lodge of a 28-year-old man who was feeling ill. The man said he had hiked 43 miles in one day. He was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

o Rangers issued a verbal warning to Maswik Cabin occupants for loud music and talking.

Monday, Sept. 17

o Rangers responded to a report of an out-of-bounds camper in the NPS headquarters parking lot. The visitors, who were Spanish nationals, were issued a verbal warning and directed to Mather Campground.

o Rangers took a report of vehicle damage. The victim said his 2000 Ford Mustang was hit on the side the previous night by a juvenile riding a scooter.

Tuesday, Sept. 18

o The News was unable to obtain ranger shift briefings for this day.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

o Rangers responded to a motor-vehicle accident near the park’s South Entrance Station. Five people were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center, one by air and four by ground. The investigation was continuing.

o Rangers responded to a report of loud noise at a camp involving NPS trail crew employees and guests at a party. Rangers asked the employees to turn down the music and keep things quiet. Later in the evening, rangers responded to a second report of loud noise at the camp. All were asked to leave for their residences, to turn the music off and put out the fire.

o Rangers responded to a fight in progress at Colter Hall to find a 21-year-old woman arguing with a juvenile over a boyfriend. While in the room, rangers contacted several terminated concessioner employees and all were warned to leave.

o Jeremy Andrews, 20, Grand Canyon, was arrested for trespassing and minor consumption of alcohol. Andrews had been warned for trespassing at a Colter Hall location earlier in the day. He was transported to county jail.

o An emergency medical call was taken at the back door of Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic of a 30-year-old woman complaining of shortness of breath. The woman refused treatment.

Thursday, Sept. 20

o Rangers responded to a visitor experiencing problems with her vehicle at Twin Overlooks. The woman, a visitor from Brazil, broke a window to extract her car keys. Then, the vehicle had a water hose break. Amfac towed the vehicle to the garage.

o James Anderson, 48, Grand Canyon, was cited for under the influence of alcohol after he was found passed out in his neighbor’s driveway on Hopi Street. Anderson was taken to his residence.

Friday, Sept. 21

o Tim Uqualla, 45, Supai, was cited for shoplifting after allegedly attempting to remove a pint of alcohol without payment from Canyon View Marketplace.

o Rangers responded to a report of a stolen or lost passport involving a concessioner employee who needed to return to Poland in two days. The woman believed she had an idea of who took the passport, but that person denied taking it.

o Rangers were asked by the manager of the Yavapai Curio Shop to be present while she confronted an employee about why his cash drawer was $82 short. The man consented to a search of his backpack and $40 in cash was found in his checkbook. The suggestion was made to place the employee in a position where he would not handle money.

o Raul Reys, 45, Grand Canyon, was cited for under the influence of alcohol and obtaining property without payment after he was observed wandering around the Bright Angel Lodge intoxicated. Rangers contacted Reys at the train tracks and stolen property from the Bright Angel Lodge was allegedly found in his possession.

Saturday, Sept. 22

o An emergency medical call was taken (site not reported) of a 39-year-old woman on self-administered oxygen that was running dangerously low. Supplemental oxygen was provided until her husband arrived. The woman refused further treatment.

o Rangers responded to a minor motor-vehicle accident between a state vehicle and a private vehicle. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

o Rangers responded to a report of a disabled vehicle less than a mile north of the South Entrance Station. The vehicle had fuel pump problems.

o An emergency medical call was taken in Grand Canyon Village of a 60-year-old woman who fell and lacerated her knee. The woman was taken to Grand Canyon Walk-In Clinic where rangers assisted until the clinic opened.

o Rangers responded to a report of a "Peeping Tom" at the Camper Services showers. Rangers were unable to locate a suspect due to the report being delayed more than an hour.

o Rangers assisted a local female resident in distress. Ongoing family problems were self-resolved.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Yavapai Lode of an adult woman (age not reported) with nausea and vomiting. Food poisoning was suspected. The woman was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center.

o An emergency medical call was taken at Bright Angel Cabins of an adult woman (age not reported) who suffered a ground-level fall and sustained a deep laceration on the heel of her left hand. The woman was provided with basic life support care on scene.

o Johnna Cavanagh, adult (age not reported), was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after rangers observed poor driving behavior near Maswik Lodge. Cavanagh was released to a third party.

o An emergency medical call was taken on the South Kaibab Trail near Cedar Ridge of a 50-year-old woman having difficulty. Search-and-rescue personnel responded to interview other hikers in the party and to assist. The hiker said this had happened to her before and she wanted to continue. Personnel monitored her progress from above. She reached the trailhead at around 5 p.m.

o An emergency medical call was taken on the Bright Angel Trail of a man (age not reported) vomiting just before Three-Mile Resthouse. The man had plans to hike down the South Kaibab and up the Bright Angel in one day. The hiker opted to rest, eat and hydrate before continuing. The man reached the trailhead at around 7 p.m.

o Rangers responded to a report of a missing motorcyclist between the Tusayan Museum turnoff and Lipan Point on Desert View Drive at around 4 p.m. Two other bikers realized the third biker was not behind them near Lipan Point at 2 p.m. They waited and then searched the roadway before reporting the incident. Confinement points were set up at Desert View, Cameron and their hotel in Flagstaff. While the team was being deployed to rule out an accident off the roadway and into vegetation, the biker showed up at the hotel in Flagstaff.
