Ruth O. Maichel
Ruth O. Maichel, 87, of Cortez, Colo. and a longtime Williams resident, died Oct. 24, 2000 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez, Colo.
She was born in Mulberry, Kan., on Dec. 21, 1912 to Joseph and Ida Matilda Greer. She married Glenn "Mike" Maichel on Oct. 4, 1929. They had two children, Robert "Bob" Maichel and Joan Arriaga. They moved to Williams in 1945.
Mrs. Maichel attended L.I.F.E. College in Los Angeles and was ordained as a minister of the Foursquare Gospel Church. She served in several northern Arizona churches, preaching, working with the Native Americans and helping out wherever she was needed. Many who knew "Sister Ruth" said they were "blessed by her servant's heart and her passion for her Savior."
She moved to Cortez in September 1999 and passed away there after suffering a stroke.
Mrs. Maichel is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her son, Bob; her daughter, Joan; and two grandchildren. She is survived by four granddaughters, Sandi (Maichel) Teter of Poncha Springs, Colo., Cindy (Maichel) Slyter of Cortez, Wendi Maichel of Salt Lake City, and Shelley Manacso of Williams; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Mrs. Maichel with the Ash Fork Foursquare Church Building Fund. Services were held Oct. 27 at the Canyon Chapel Four-square Church in Williams, with the Rev. Ed Malone officiating. Inter-ment followed at Williams Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled the Ertel Funeral Home in Cortez.
Collin E. "Bud" Owens
Collin E. "Bud" Owens, 70, longtime Williams resident died at home Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000. He was born April 17, 1930 in Phoenix to Floyd and Mabel Owens. Mr. Owens was married to Janelle Thompson Owens and had three children. During his lifetime, he worked at 66 Auto Supply for 35 or so years, was retired from the Williams Volunteer Fire Depart-ment as chief, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and most recently retired from the City of Williams where he worked for the water department.
Survivors include his wife Janelle; two sons Eugene Owens and Douglas Owens; a daughter Colleen Owens, all of Williams; three grandchildren, Jonna Davis of Williams, Michael Parker of Artesia, N.M. and Darcie Davis of Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Rory Stewart and Tanner Parker.
A private family memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Arizona Hospice. Stewart Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
