Volunteers needed to read to children

Love of Literature Week is Feb. 25 through March 2 — Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Part of the events include community members volunteering to read to students. Feb. 28 is the date made available for volunteers to schedule time to read to young people at the Williams Elementary/Middle School. The school has scheduled a number of events throughout the week, including a book sale and performances by students and faculty. Anyone who wants to read or volunteer can call Karyn White at 635-4428.

WPD looking for garage sale items

The Williams Police Department is looking for saleable items for a rummage sale to benefit the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in town. Anyone with items to donate can drop them off at WPD, 501 W. Route 66. Sam’s Club has pledged to match, up to $2,500, any money the DARE program raises. Ambassador mixer — Friday

The next Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce Ambassador mixer will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday at Doc Holliday’s Steak House, 950 N. Grand Canyon Blvd.

Residents are invited to come and meet business people, chamber directors, city officials and other guests.

The host is Theresa Rodriguez, Holiday Inn manager.

The 50/50 drawing will go to benefit the Williams Aquatic Center. Anyone with questions can call Carol Glassburn at 645-4503.

Chamber banquet set for this March

The Williams-Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce annual banquet is March 2 at Rosa’s Cantina, 411 N. Grand Canyon Blvd.

The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a no-host bar.

Dinner starts at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by Jay Tobin.

This year’s theme is “Volunteer Fiesta Celebration” to honor volunteers groups and committees within the chamber. Door prizes and drawing will be held throughout the evening.

Tickets for the banquet go on sale Friday and are available from the chamber office or from any board member. The cost is $16 each.
