Selma Bruce

Selma P. Bruce, 82, of Henderson, Nev., died Nov. 4, 2001. She was born in Duran, N.M. on Nov. 13, 1918 to Williams and Augusta Tomblin. She moved at an early age with her family to Seligman, where her father worked for the Santa Fe Railroad.

In her late teen years, Mrs. Bruce worked as a Harvey Girl for Fred Harvey in Seligman. Then she moved to Williams where she worked as a waitress for many years, while raising a family of her own.

In 1968 Mrs. Bruce went to work as a policewoman at the Williams Police Department and retired in 1980.

After living in Colorado, Missouri and New Mexico, she made Henderson her home in 1986.

Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, four sisters, her son, Douglas Dean, and one son-in-law, Doyle Henson.

Survivors include a son, Bill Fuller and his wife, Karen, of Green Valley; five daughters, Kate Henson of Las Vegas, Dixie Puckett and her husband, Cliff, of Chandler, Donna Massey of Boise Idaho, Debbie Martin and her husband, Joe, of Henderson, and Ruthi Miller and her husband, Darrel, of Henderson; 13 grandsons, five granddaughters, five great-grandsons and 10 great-granddaughters.

According to her wishes, Mrs. Bruce was cremated. A memorial is planned for Dec. 1, 2001, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Palo Verde Drive in Henderson.

Gertrude Jacoby

Gertrude E. Jacoby, 85, of Williams died Nov. 14, 2001. She was born Oct. 10, 1916 in Germany. Mrs. Jacoby worked as a seamstress and was an avid gardener who loved flowers.

Survivors include a daughter Nina Varga and her husband, Paul, of Williams; a granddaughter, Noreen Gastineau of Williams; a grandson, Steven Wargo of Gallup, N.M. and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 900 W. Grant Ave., in Williams. Mrs. Jacoby will be buried at a future date in New Jersey, alongside her late husband Frank Jacoby.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Flagstaff Mortuary.

Tomas Maestas

Tomas “Tommy” Maestas, 66, longtime Williams resident, died Oct. 11, 2001 at Flagstaff Medical Center. Mr. Maestas was born Sept. 7, 1935 in Benalillo, N.M. to Tiofelio and Frances Maestas, and lived in the Williams area for 40 years. He was a veteran and a retired produce manager.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of Williams; two daughters, Loreen and Doreen, and their children.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15, 2001 at Stewart Chapel with burial following at Williams Cemetery.
