Williams Senior Minors baseball team now 9-0

The Williams Devil Rays had few problems remaining unbeaten last week with four more victories.

The Senior Minors team began the week with a 21-9 win over the Continental Brewers on Tuesday, followed with an 18-0 shutout over the Flagstaff Indians on Wednesday, and then swept a doubleheader over the Continental Astros on Saturday by scores of 9-3 and 23-5.

In the 12-run win over the Brewers, Ryan Barnes got the win at pitcher. Jake Pratt fanned two in his one-inning appearance.

At the plate, John Kennelly, Juan Delgadillo and Mariano Zabala each had three hits. Chance Grantham, Jon Garcia, Pratt and Barnes each had two hits.

The following day, the team had a makeup game vs. the Flagstaff Indians and took an easy 18-0 triumph.

Kennelly and Garcia combined for the shutout at pitcher. Kennelly went four innings, struck out five, walked three and allowed just two hits. Garcia pitched the fifth inning, striking out two of three batters.

Delgadillo and Garcia each went 4-for-4 at the plate, including two triples by Garcia and one triple by Delgadillo. Grantham, Kennelly and Zabala had three hits apiece. Pratt and Barnes both wet 2-for-4 and Matthew Dent was 1-for-2.

The most competitive game for the Devil Rays during the week came Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader vs. the Astros. With the game tied 1-1 after three innings, Williams came alive in the last three innings to end up with a 9-3 victory.

Delgadillo had a complete-game, eight-hit, no-walk, eight-strikeout performance.

Offensive leaders were Garcia (3-for-3, double, triple), Dent (3-for-4), Pratt (2-for-4), Nick Padilla (1-for-1) and Josh Barnes (1-for-2).

In the second game, the Devil Rays were never challenged in a 23-5 win. The Rays scored 10 runs in the first two innings and added eight more in the third. The Astros did get five in the second, but that would be it.

Garcia had a stellar performance on the mound. In five innings, Garcia allowed four hits, fanned five batters and walked three.

Delgadillo, Garcia and Ryan Barnes each had three hits, Zabala, Pratt, Dent, Padilla and Tyler Rose each had two hits and Josh Barnes went 1-for-2.

The team played the Flagstaff Cardinals Tuesday in a game after deadline. The team is now off until June 3.
