Devil Rays keep winning and winning

The Williams Devil Rays Senior Minors baseball team upped its record to 12-0, mowing down two more victims last week.

The Devil Rays downed the Flagstaff Indians, 16-3, and then whipped the Continental Diamondbacks, 19-6, both games being played Saturday.

In the win over the Indians, which ended after 4 1/2 innings because of the mercy rule, Juan Delgadillo pitched and allowed five hits and five walks while striking out six.

Williams led from the start, scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning while sending 15 batters to the plate.

Offensively, Mariano Zabala went 3-for-3 with a double, Jake Pratt was 2-for-2 with a double, Delgadillo was 1-for-1, John Kennelly went 3-for-4, Jon Garcia was 2-for-3 with a double, Cesar Davalos was 2-for-3 and Ryan Barnes hit a double.

In the 13-run win over the D-Backs, Garcia tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Top hitters were Zabala (3-for-5, double), Delgadillo (3-for-3, triple), Garcia (2-for2, double), Ryan Barnes (2-for-4), Josh Barnes (1-for-1) and Nicolas Padilla (1-for-1).

Williams plays Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. against the Grand Canyon Cardinals. The Cards were 6-4 before playing Tuesday.
